Anticipated SFF Releases (2020)

I try to keep the number of series I am reading to a minimum – not that it does much good! – and I also tend to read a lot of series that are already finished, because I love it when I can just read through to the end as soon as I like!

Obviously there are some exceptions, and this is the list of books I am excited for this year – plus some others I’m still waiting for!

The Burning God (The Poppy War #3)by R. F. Kuang

If you have read my recent reviews of The Poppy War and The Dragon Republic, you will know how much I love this trilogy so far!

I’ve burned (no pun intended) through the first two books and am now waiting for November 2020 for the third and final book to be released.

It surprised me how much I enjoyed these books as I tend not to be particularly interested in fantasy books that focus on war a huge amount. Yes, I am always partial to an epic fantasy battle, but this series is far more… is “serious” the right word?

Anyway, this series is great and if you haven’t read them yet, hurry up before November!

Rhythm of War (The Stormlight Archive #4) By Brandon Sanderson

Yet another book coming out in November 2020! I, along with every other Sanderson fan, have been following his regular updates for book number four of The Stormlight Archive!

The first three books are an incredible accomplishment on their own, but knowing that this will one day be a 10-book epic is just the best news anyone can be told.

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini

I am currently making my way through Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle – very slowly, just enjoying the reread – in anticipation for his newest book.

I love it when a writer branches out and tries writing in a different genre so I’m excited to see what Paolini brings to the science fiction genre. To anyone who thinks authors who are good at one genre should stick to it, I’d just like to point out that authors like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and George R. R. Martin would definitely disagree with you.

Anyway, this book is being released on September 15th 2020, so it’s the one on this list I will be reading first!

Two books I wanted to mention even though I haven’t read all the books before them in the series yet are:

  • The Fires of Vengeance (The Burning #2) – by Evan Winter
  • Peace Talks (The Dresden Files #16) – by Jim Butcher

I am only four books into The Dresden Files and I’m having a great time burning through those books. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up, and if not I’ll be damn close!

I’m about half-way through The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter and I’m enjoying it so far. I’m hesitant as to whether I’ll want to continue reading the series, but right now I’ll say I am looking forward to it.

And finally here are the two books that everyone and their nan is waiting for:

The Winds of Winter (A Song of Ice and Fire #6)By George R. R. Martin

The Doors of Stone (Kingkiller Chronicle #3)By Patrick Rothfuss

I’ve already written a post called Stop Telling George R. R. Martin to Hurry Up with ‘The Winds of Winter’ ” – so there are my thoughts on that! However, Martin did update his fans recently saying he’s spending more time in Westeros than in the real world right now, so lets all hope for a release date that either 2021 or 2022? Yeah???

Okay, so that’s my short list. Are there any books that you are anticipating – or any you think I should be excited for too? Let me know down in the comments!
