The tbr list is never ending. It’s both a blessing and a curse to have so many books out there! Non-Fiction, however, is a genre I do not put onto my tbr list nearly enough. I recently thought about how I need to incorporate a little factual reading into my reading routine, so here’s a list of three non-fiction books I want to read.
Just quickly, if you have any suggestions, please let me know down in the comments! I’m always looking for more books!
Dishonesty is the Second-Best Policy by David Mitchell
I think most people would agree that David Mitchell is brilliantly funny. His work on panel shows is fantastic and the Upstart Crow TV series on BBC is one of my favourite sitcoms of all time.
He also writes for the Guardian sometimes and I enjoy his articles.
Basically, reading a book of “rules to live by” from David Mitchell sounds both hilarious and quite probably thought provoking.
A History of the Bible: The Book and Its Faiths by Dr John Barton
Religion is a topic I have enjoyed reading about before, but so often I’ve focused only on The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins or God is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens. Both are great books and I enjoyed them, but this book by Dr John Barton is something very different.
I love history. I watch a lot of documentaries and studied some history in my A-Levels, so a book about the history of the Bible sounds like just the sort of thing I would be interested in.
Because Internet: Understanding how language is changing by Gretchen McCulloch
I’ve read a little into language when writing a half-dissertation on New Speak in George Orwell’s 1984, so I know little bits and pieces from the likes of Stephen Pinker and Noam Chomsky, but the very modern look at language and its evolution fascinates me. The way out language is changing because of and with the use of technology is something I had never really thought about, so I will be giving this book a read!
Again, please let me know in the comments or on social media if you have any more suggestions for my list! What do you think of the books on the list so far?
