Supergirl – ‘Event Horizon’ – Season 4, Episode 1: TV Review

My Rating: 3/5

Before the midpoint of the episode, my rating would have been 2/5. There was a point where there seemed to be a glimmer of hope for this season.

The story of Lena Luthor’s betrayal is one I was looking forward to the most. I love a story that explore the complexity of emotions between characters and this is what the betrayal story has promised. So far, we have had a good introduction to that.

Moving on to J’onn’s story, I’m a little confused and I really don’t care about it yet. I’m intrigued but only because we have been given almost no information. The battle with Midnight was great though, but that was in large part to the Muse song behind it. If a show has to lean on good music to make a scene feel great, there is an issue there.

The new boss of Catco is interesting. There is an obvious, incredibly on the nose, plot taking place. I know the show is going to explore all the negatives of tech, social media, and the attitudes of modern, tabloid journalism that is so popular. I wanted to hate the new boss but I couldn’t help just being annoyed by the pettiness of the storyline. I hope it becomes more interesting that an obvious story about modern society, but I’m not too hopeful.

With over 20 episodes to go, there is a lot of room for improvement, but like I said, I’m not too hopeful just yet.
